There's this little bistro in Olde Towne East that uses locally sourced ingredients, many from their own farm, to create a menu with big flavors. Local foodies are well aware of Black Creek Bistro's delectable dishes, but what may go overlooked is a happy hour that offers some excellent food and drinks for a meager price.

The booze:

Black Creek has something affordable for every imbiber: There's a host of specialty martinis and top-notch craft beers available for less than $6, with some excellent wine selections sold at state minimum prices.

Start by picking one of the 12-ounce craft beers that sell for $3, or a 22-ounce bomber from Rogue Brewery for $6. The Rogue Juniper Pale Ale is a tasty, popular staple.

Not a beer drinker? Try one of the specialty martinis ($5) or house-made infused liquors.

The lemon-infused vodka is always available, and with just a dash of simple syrup, it's the best lemonade this side of a rocks glass. Be careful, though - this potent potable is dangerous thanks to its citrusy smoothness.

Often the bistro has a pepper- and garlic-infused vodka that's perfect for a Bloody Mary, or you can drink it straight up if you're looking to ward off vampires.

Others infusions - such as tequila- or gin-flavored vodka - are crafted on a whim, and you never know what you'll find.

The food:

During happy hour, have some fun sampling the enticing $5 appetizers.

The salmon cakes with Creole mustard and parmesan-topped baby spinach are excellent, with just the right amount of salty seasoning.

The Fried Brie topped with a berry medley is also a standout - both visually and flavor-wise.

Looking for a little heat? Hit up the Firecracker Shrimp sauteed with Thai chili and served with a jalapeno, garlic and red onion sauce. You won't be disappointed.
