Lamont "Bim" Thomas has battered the drums in grizzled Ohio garage bands Bassholes and This Moment In Black History, but the solo project Obnox showcases his blown-out four-track recordings. The 25-minute set "I'm Bleeding Now" is quick and messy, just the way Bim and his contingent like it.

It's also admirably diverse given its primitive sonic palette. The title track suggests Columbus noisemongers The Unholy Two plus melody, while "Totalled" approximates TV on the Radio traveling back to 1993 to record in Bob Pollard's basement. A tornado envelops a Stooges concert for the treble-bomb "The Cowboy and the Cowgirl." A four-minute noise freakout concludes the album.

Obnox joins Altered States of the United Snakes and Andrew Graham & Swarming Branch at Rumba this Saturday.
