More than 100 teams will compete in a citywide scavenger hunt when the Great Urban Race takes off from the Arena District at 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.

"We'll have clues all throughout Columbus," said Ashley Beirne, spokeswoman for Red Frog Events, which organizes races across the country. "We hope to introduce participants to new and exciting places that they can go from now on."

At the starting line, teams will get clue sheets with puzzles or riddles that lead them to various destinations, where they must complete tasks, take photos or find items. Participants can travel only by foot or public transportation.

It's like a local episode of "The Amazing Race," Beirne said.

"We have people who are really diehard, and they sprint the entire time," she added. "We also have people who are very leisurely and just into finding out something new about Columbus."

Registration costs $50 per person until 5 p.m. Friday and $60 per person on race day.
