As far as festivals go, Columbus is a city where the established ones - ComFest, Dublin Irish Festival, Italian Festival - draw the most attention. But with Columbus Unscripted taking place this weekend, a first-timer is creating buzz.

As far as festivals go, Columbus is a city where the established ones - ComFest, Dublin Irish Festival, Italian Festival - draw the most attention. But with Columbus Unscripted taking place this weekend, a first-timer is creating buzz.

Columbus Unscripted is the first improv festival to be presented here, and some impressive veterans from the Chicago scene will join a number of local troupes for a big dose of laughter during the two-day event.

Megan Grano and Susan Messing, alumni of two of Chicago's most heralded comedy troupes, Second City and iO (formerly ImprovOlympic), will be featured performers.

Messing is a founding member of Chicago's popular Annoyance Theatre. And Grano, who has appeared on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" and "Family Guy," will be teaching workshops on Saturday and Sunday.

The two will join together for Messing's signature show, "Messing with a Friend" at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus. Wild Goose Creative regulars See You Thursday will open.

"Messing with a Friend" is a regular show at the Annoyance, and it has featured cast members of "Saturday Night Live" and "MADtv."

Sunday night is the Local and Regional Improv Showcase at Wild Goose, beginning at 7 p.m. Ohio State University's resident group 8th Floor Improv will be on hand as well as another Wild Goose regular, Dutch Company.

Two all-female troupes, Dixie Cups from Columbus and The Angry Ladies of Improv from Cleveland, will also perform Saturday.
