It's a bit unusual that a film goes on tour city-by-city, rock band-style. But "Red State" is an unusual movie. I mean, it's a violent horror flick from Lord of the Fanboys director Kevin Smith.

It’s a bit unusual that a film goes on tour city-by-city, rock band-style. But “Red State” is an unusual movie. I mean, it’s a violent horror flick from Lord of the Fanboys director Kevin Smith.

“Red State” is centered on a fundamentalist preacher (Michael Parks) who doles out violent punishments in accordance with scripture.

The film is making headlines, in part, for the striking similarities between Fred Phelps and his violently anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church (which is made up almost entirely of Phelps family members).

The “Red State” tour makes a stop Sunday at the Gateway. The $20 ticket will include a live video chat with Smith.

Reviews are mixed so far, but I can’t wait to see this one for myself.
