“SantaLand Diaries,” David Sedaris’ account of being a Christmas elf at Macy’s, has become a holiday radio tradition. It’s one that makes me laugh-cry every time. No matter how many times a Sedaris story is replayed, the material remains fresh. And it is always distilled through Sedaris’ unmistakable voice, cadence and rhythm (which you will hear, unprompted, if you read his books).
His is a style that is often imitated in writing and spoken performance, but it’s never matched. To see him perform live is to see that compelling radio story or book essay literally leap to life.
Sedaris is touring with his most recent book, a collection of fables called “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary.” He’ll read from it on Sunday night and then will sign books for fans.
