Liverpool’s Wombats are a big deal overseas, but they were barred from spreading their own gospel stateside due to visa problems earlier this year. Now that the paperwork is sorted out, their smart, snappy dance rock is coming to Outland this Friday.
Frontman Matthew Murphy is funny without being overbearing; the band’s breakthrough hit demanded, “Let’s dance to Joy Division/ And celebrate the irony,” over ebullient fast-paced party rock. New single “Tokyo (Vampires and Wolves)” is a bit darker but no less catchy.
