Don't expect to walk away from The New Music Collective's free concert humming a melody you heard. Obvious melodies will be scarce, considering that the program is full of uber-contemporary music by famous and local composers.

The New Music Collective, a group of OSU students and faculty members, are teaming up with students from Otterbein and OSU's dance department for the performance, which is presented by The Johnstone Fund for New Music. The program includes thrilling pieces by masters of atonal music Luciano Berio and Morton Feldman, as well as minimalist Steve Reich and semi-minimalist Frederic Rzewski, whom The New York Times has accurately labeled a maverick.

OSU doctoral student Michael Torres and his wife, Erin, will perform his "Duo for Flute and Alto Saxophone," and local composer Vera Stanojevic will be on hand for her "Voyage I" for piano and computer-generated sound.
