I’m pretty sure that if Animal Collective decided to start their own country, plenty of underground buzz bands would be happy to move there. Groups like Gauntlet Hair are already more or less swearing allegiance by virtue of their music.
That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with the bomb-squad 808s, feral vocal melodies and atmospheric keyboard sounds therein. In fact, I imagine Tuesday’s show at The Summit with Petit Mal will be a blast. I just continue to be startled that this is what indie rock sounds like in 2011.
