Staff Pick: Bison hike at Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park

From the November 24, 2011 edition

In February, six female bison were transported to Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park from The Wilds in an effort to aid prairie restoration at the Galloway preserve. It was an experiment — and, so far, a really successful one. Grasslands benefit from large herbivores that agitate the landscape and thin plants, and visitors benefit from ogling amazing beasts extirpated from Ohio more than 100 years ago.

If you’ve never seen them, you’ve got the perfect opportunity Saturday afternoon during a guided two-mile hike. Meet at the naturalist center.
