Staff Pick: Ohio Statehouse Holiday Tree Lighting and Holiday Festival

From the November 24, 2011 edition

This 96-year-old holiday tradition at the People’s House includes craft stations geared toward kids, but anyone who is a kid at heart will enjoy this free celebration.

Stop by the west side of the Statehouse (on High Street) at 5:30 p.m. for a short outdoor tree-lighting ceremony. Santa and the missus will arrive in a horse-drawn carriage. Follow them inside to stroll through the decked-out halls of the Statehouse atrium and rotunda. There will be refreshments, carolers and other performances.

Bring a non-perishable food donation for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Paint your face at the Fa La La La La Face Painting Station. Or make a hanging chad tree ornament at the Secretary of State’s Activity Table. Just kidding! So 2004.
