Staff Pick: Music Loves Ohio benefit

Lawyer, restaurateur and music scene advocate Matt Crumpton started Music Loves Ohio because he realized VH1’s ballyhooed Save the Music program didn’t apply to so-called flyover states.

Who needs Viacom to host workshops and loan instruments in the name of kids learning how to play music? After a period of fundraising, the non-profit has started to put instruments in students’ hands. To keep up the momentum, Friday’s benefit bash features O.A.R. saxophonist Jerry DePizzo, Marty Dodson of Saving Jane and Crumpton’s self-described “’90s rap jam band” The Winnie Cooper Project (pictured).
