Vampires and remakes of British shows are pretty common in the television landscape, so it makes sense that the popular supernatural drama from across the pond was Americanized and did well enough ratings-wise to earn a second season.
Following the lives of vampire Aidan (Sam Witwer), his werewolf buddy Josh (Sam Huntington) and their ghost roommate Sally (Meaghan Rath), it has an out-there premise, even for a “horror drama,” but it’s executed well.
Interspersing supernatural drama — feuding vampire sects, Josh possibly turning his girlfriend into a werewolf, what ghosts do to kill time — with some genuine human moments and decent humor, “Being Human” is a quality show. It doesn’t fall into the same guilty pleasure vein as “True Blood.”
Huntington carries the show with his ability to display both drama and wit effortlessly, and Witwer broods believably. He does not sparkle (and tirelessly annoy) like a certain other pretty vampire.
