“I hated getting to the end of the workweek and realizing that aside from text messages and a few brief exchanges, I really didn’t know what was going on with the person that I was dating because we were both so busy.

I found that low-key nights where we could actually talk and spend time together made a huge difference. Something as simple as just browsing around The Book Loft, followed by a coffeehouse chat helped keep us in tune.

One particular date night that I loved last year was actually very simple. We met for drinks after work and then walked over to The Candle Lab. We playfully sampled all of the scents and shared our favorites. You can learn a lot about a person in the process since our sense of smell is so closely linked to memories. With a little help, we fashioned our own fragrances and poured them into custom candles.

While we waited for them to set, we strolled through Goodale Park on our way to a quiet dinner on Basi Italia’s super-chill patio. It was the perfect setting to share stories and relax after another hectic week. Secluded and intimate.

On the way home, we picked up our candles, which made for a great souvenir from a special night in the Short North.”
