For years I’ve wanted to recommend a salamander event at the Metro Parks, but the ones I saw were always geared toward kids. This time, adults will get to hike off-trail in search of these adorable amphibians. Ohio has more than 20 species of salamanders, most of which are extremely secretive, live in or near wetlands and hide during daylight hours.
Naturalists will lead a mile-long trip Tuesday evening at Glacier Ridge Metro Park, home to vernal pools and other prime salamander habitats. Meet at the bulletin board near the picnic shelter, dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes or boots.
