Staff Pick: Better Than Something: Jay Reatard at the Wexner Center

Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., a.k.a. Jay Reatard, began crafting primitive lo-fi records as a high-school dropout in the crack- and meth-riddled Memphis slums. His traumatic upbringing made him a legendary prick, but also legendarily prolific. Reatard built renown in the garage punk underground with one razor-sharp record after another until alcohol and cocaine ended his steady stream of aggression at age 29.

New Bomb Turks frontman and journalist Eric Davidson will introduce the Wexner Center’s screening of “Better Than Something,” Alex Hammond and Ian Markiewicz’s mesmerizing Reatard documentary. Davidson will spin Reatard tracks from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, followed by the screening. An after-party at Ace of Cups starts at 9:30, with appearances by Nervosas, Slave Labia and Angry Cougars plus New Bomb Turks DJ sets.
