For more than three decades, accolades have been commonplace for this exceptional French-American restaurant — and the plaques keep piling up. Chef Richard Blondin, who studied under Paul Bocuse, was honored this year as a semi-finalist nominee for a James Beard award (they’re the Oscars of cuisine).

High rollers love to splurge on the Refectory’s seasonal and elegant — if far-from-boring — menu (bourbon-brined, bacon-crusted Texas antelope or sweetbread lasagna, anyone?) and clued-in everyday diners know to target the unsurpassed bargains (under $25) on the three-course bistro meal.
