We love to champion the upstart bakers, crafters and farmers who sell their wares at weekend farmers markets. Any of them could become the next Connells Maple Lee. This perennial favorite of Alive readers got its start in the 1930s in just such a position: Hannah Royer began selling her beautiful African violets at factories and markets for extra cash. Seventy-five years later, the Royer family is still running the business, which has expanded to three locations and now delivers nationwide.
Connells Maple Lee is famous for its customer service and for honoring special requests. What could be more reassuring when ordering that first bouquet for a new love, choosing a prom corsage or brightening the spirit of an ailing friend?
