Staff Pick: Lucero and William Elliott Whitmore at The Bluestone

By
From the April 4, 2012 edition

Like Columbus road dogs Two Cow Garage, Memphis country-punks Lucero seem to spend more time on tour than at home, relentlessly bringing their raw-throated heartland rock to ecstatic devotees nationwide. They’ve been known to pack out bars like Bernie’s and Rumba, so this time through they’re upgrading to The Bluestone. With the expanded space comes an expanded sonic palette; new LP “Women & Work” is a horn-blasted, gospel-infected tribute to the rollicking roots of Memphis rock ’n’ roll. They’ve evolved from sweet Southern desperation into a more luxurious take on workingman’s rock. Blues/hardcore crossover icon William Elliott Whitmore will open the show.
