Most of the bands Kobo booked for the bar’s second anniversary celebration, which began Tuesday and continues through Saturday, hail from Columbus. Every night the lineup is stacked. But the pinnacle of this celebration just might be Friday’s visit from Chicago one-man band Netherfriends.
Like kindred Columbus act The Saturday Giant, Shawn Rosenblatt builds expansive indie-pop on the spot by playing and looping a wide array of instruments. Like another Columbus band, Way Yes, Rosenblatt cribs from the skewed sunny-side sounds of Animal Collective, making his “Middle America” LP feel like an existential trip to the twilight tropics. (All the songs are named after cities, including a track called “Columbus, OH.”)
Joining Rosenblatt this Friday will be She Bears, Cannonball and Petit Mal.
