Bel Lago

170 N. Sunbury Road, Westerville

A trip to swanky Bel Lago feels like a true escape from the city and its bustle. From a perch on the first-floor deck, the Hoover Reservoir is a wide blue expanse lined with trees that seem impossibly far away. Anglers skip across the water in motorized boats. A heron is likely to glide across the surface of the water as you’re sipping wine and nibbling Italian-inspired food.

The full restaurant menu, filled with pastas, pizzas and traditional Italian dishes, is well-suited for al fresco dining. Try the hummus duo appetizer for a crisp starter.

Head up to the spectacular Terrace Bar for the best tree-lined views and a relaxed atmosphere. The bar has a happy hour (4-6 p.m. Monday-Friday) with exclusive price breaks on drinks and appetizers. And Sunday at Bel Lago is Happy Day; those sweet happy hour deals are available all day.

Callahan’s

You’ll feel like the king of Columbus on the rooftop bar at Callahan’s, where you can hoist a pint to the Leveque Tower and get a fresh perspective from a patio above the fray. In a city with few rooftop bar options, Callahan’s is prime real estate. The atmosphere (and the menu and drinks) encourages the art of chill.

Milestone 229

Soak up panoramic views of Downtown and the Scioto River that you just can’t get anywhere else. Fun cocktails, seasonal beers and a solid menu make this much more than just a pretty place. As lovely as the dining room is, the massive, curvy patio is a stunner. Completion of the new Rich Street bridge, just a couple of weeks away, will only improve the view.
