Among the beard-folk upstarts of late last decade, Bowerbirds haven’t experienced the explosive, big-font popularity surge of peers Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes. The North Carolina lovers’ brand of rustic folk-pop is a bit more elusive in its charms.
On third LP “The Clearing,” Beth Tacular and Philip Moore give their baroque backwoods balladry a broader sonic scope, as if transporting the demure dream-pop of Beach House to their cabin in the woods, paring it down to its component parts and handing them off to Devendra Banhart.
Friday they’ll play the Wex with opener Basia Bulat.
