TV review: Perception

From the July 5, 2012 edition

TNT keeps rolling out summer dramas, and (excluding the decent “Falling Skies”) they’re all mindless, summer fluff. The latest stars Eric McCormack (“Will & Grace”) as Daniel, a neuroscience professor who helps the FBI solve crimes.

Daniel is recruited by a former student, FBI Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), for his super-brain and puzzle-solving abilities. He’s really smart, but he’s also a paranoid schizophrenic, so the show centers on his unorthodox case-solving.

Besides the weak cases-of-the-week in this procedural, McCormick is fine — and LeVar Burton (“Reading Rainbow”) makes a welcomed guest appearance. But Cook is pretty awful. She is definitely not all that, and neither is “Perception.”
