The actual brothers in JEFF the Brotherhood are Tennessee good-ol’-boys who know exactly the kind of life they want and are happy to sing about it for you. Choice lyrics from their Dan Auerbach-produced major label leap “Hypnotic Nights” include: “I want someplace that I can smoke meat/ Where I can drink and swim in a creek” and “Let’s load the car up/ I’ve got a bag of ice/ I’ve got a six-pack/ and I don’t want to go back.”
Sounds like paradise, particularly when framed in pop-minded garage rock that does everything essential and nothing more.
