Staff pick: School of Seven Bells at the Wexner Center

From the August 23, 2012 edition

On first glance, New York dream-pop duo School of Seven Bells seems to spend as much time finding pretentious ways to present themselves (geometric hair, band abbreviation “SVIIB”) as making music. But remove the aesthetic annoyances and find gorgeous, gleaming pop songs propelled by frenetic rhythm — the sound of ice moving at the speed of light. Although new album “Ghostory” finds the former trio minus one identical twin sister, remaining members Benjamin Curtis of Secret Machines (Remember them?) and Alejandra Deheza of On! Air! Library! (Remember them? No?) clearly make a good team.

Indiana shoegaze punks Stagnant Pools make a sweet opening act for Saturday’s gig at the Wex.
