Décor: Modern art lover’s paradise

  • Mollie buys Kelly a cuckoo clock once a year to celebrate their commitment ceremony anniversary.
  • The Fankhausers’ attorney painted the hay field landscape above their bed. Some of the art in their house comes from travels stateside and abroad, but the couple also buys a lot of local art at events like Por Vida or at local vendors of cool or weird art like Salon Hotel Lily and Grandview Mercantile. Many of the pieces are also from the now-closed Mahan Gallery (which, they agreed, they miss greatly). That horse head, though, was a gift from Mollie to Kelly that she got at Z Gallerie.]
  • Skull and gun motifs show up consistently throughout the Fankhauser home. “A guest once said, ‘Oh, I see you’re decorating for Halloween already,’” Mollie said, laughing.

Mollie and Kelly Fankhauser met while they both were playing golf professionally on the Futures Tour. Mollie went on to play the LPGA European tour, and Kelly worked as her caddy. Today the couple has hung up their clubs and moved on to their next sweet adventure — cupcakes. The two started Kittie’s Cakes, a web-based cupcake shop, a year ago and plan to open a bricks-and-mortar bakery in German Village next February. Mollie and Kelly — and ice-cube loving Linus, their zealous Labrador puppy — gave us a tour of their home, which is an oasis of relaxation for them and a gallery of cool modern art and decor for us.
