To call Baltimore a Southern city feels like a stretch, but geography never stopped nobody from rocking according to their flavor of choice, and J Roddy Walston & The Business started out in Tennessee, anyhow.
The swaggering foursome kicks out some of the most enjoyable Southern-fried rock ’n’ roll to be found in this generation, not bothering to reinvent a formula that requires no adjustments. Walston’s voice is rich and commanding, and he uses it to string together notes in warmly hospitable fashion. This music sounds like barbecue tastes.
The DewDroppers, who plunge a few decades earlier into history, will offer a sufficiently rowdy opening set Thursday at A&R Music Bar.
