Stalls of Fame: Local Bar

Local Bar is a fun Short North joint with some great draft beers and an exemplary use of a ’70s retro décor. There are a lot of good reasons to hang out there, and one of the best is the bathrooms adorned with old Playboy and Tiger Beat covers. Both the Playboys in the men’s room and the Tiger Beats in the women’s room instantly take any twenty/thirtysomething back to their adolescence, when we lovingly gazed upon the likes of Pamela Anderson at her (then) barest, or Rob Lowe at his hunkiest.

The single-use restrooms were designed and installed by Joe Valencia, owner of the Short North’s vintage boutique Flower Child. Valencia culled the old-school magazine covers from his collection, which is a nice addition to Local Bar’s retro atmosphere. General manager Billy Beesaw said, “At Local Bar, it’s not a theme, it’s a state of mind.”
