Preview: “Orchids!” at Franklin Park Conservatory

Let the conservatory’s annual dreamscape of colorful and interesting orchids shake out some of your winter doldrums. Around 1,000 orchids are on display in the Dorothy M. Davis Showhouse.

Although the flowers are the main attraction, there’s plenty of art to be seen among the layers of color. Sculptures from Aurora Robson’s “Sacrifice + Bliss” show of upcycled artworks, one of Alive’s top five visual arts exhibits of 2012, suspend from the ceiling. And the contemporary design of the planting beds echoes the patterns of orchids and tropical plants.

Among the conservatory’s complementary presentations are orchid presentations by horticulturalists at 1 p.m. daily, tours with the horticulturalists at 11 a.m. on Saturdays, and Q&A sessions with members of the Central Ohio Orchid Society from 1 to 4 p.m. every Sunday.
