Preview: Doldrums at Double Happiness

From the March 7, 2013 edition

Doldrums could be described as (a) outsider music, (b) psychedelic music, (c) electronic music, (d) “You call this music?!” exclaimed the bewildered curmudgeon. It ain’t everybody’s cup of tea. In fact, it’s not my cup of tea. But maybe it’s yours, provided you like to dissolve some serious hallucinogens in your tea.

Supposedly, debut album Lesser Evil is a critique of/response to our media-saturated climate, a callback to an era before 24-hour status updates. If it’s supposed to reflect my mush-brain after 45 minutes of Facebook surfing, it accomplishes its task handily. Not sure I want to willingly engage with such sounds, but I do appreciate the “Phantom Tollbooth” reference.
