It’s my job to go to happy hours. But, to be completely honest, this gets repetitive because many happy hours offer the same specials. Occasionally, I come across a happy hour that goes above and beyond the rest. This is one such happy hour.
It’s possible that there’s a better happy hour on campus than 4th St. Bar & Grill (known for its affinity for all things soccer and home to the Crew Union), but I highly doubt it. The campus spot’s happy hour immediately earned my respect by offering specials until 9 p.m. It’s rare you find a spot that goes past 7 p.m., but a place that goes until this late — with booze I actually want to drink — is my great white whale.
Making this late run even better is what 4th St. has discounted. All drinks are half-off (with the rare exception of a limited release like Bell’s Hopslam). All 58 drafts, including the ones at 4th St.’s carryout/growler fillery House of Brews, are half-off. A glass of Redbreast 15 whiskey? Half-off. Even appetizers are half-off from 4 to 7 p.m.
Besides the everyday happy hour deals, 4th St. comes through with a different daily special as well. The most popular is Tuesday night’s half-off everything all night long special. It results in 4th St.’s busiest, most debauched night.
“Get here early. If not, you won’t find a seat,” General Manager Bryan Myers said.
While Tuesday is clearly a night of revelry, Thursday is also popular and offers another excellent daily special. 4th St.’s Local Love Thursdays means $3 Ohio drafts, $4 OYO and Watershed vodkas, $4 Brothers Drake meads and $5 whiskeys from the aforementioned Columbus distilleries.
Lastly, 4th St. began offering beer flights recently that are — you guessed it — half-off ($7) during happy hour. The 58 taps have seriously excellent stuff, and the five sample (5 ounce) flight is ideal for getting a well-rounded experience.
