Brad Keefe is the web producer and film critic for Alive. These are a few of his favorite things.
Katalina’s Cafe Corner
This Harrison West staple is quite possibly the best reason to live in the neighborhood. Their sandwiches are epic (my favorite: the Mazatlan Slow-Roasted Pork & Egg Sandwich). Their breakfasts are legendary (get Nutella pancake balls or the breakfast burrito). The fact that they’re right around the corner from me is dangerous. Can’t wait for patio season.
Andy Warhol-inspired Han Solo T-shirt
When my friends and I played “Star Wars,” I got to be Han Solo. So when I saw this Andy Warhol-style Solo shirt at What the Rock?!, I knew it had to be mine. And now it is.
El Camino Inn’s happy hour
I’ve long been a regular at Little Palace, but their next-door sister bar has been swaying my allegiance lately. I love the So-Cal dive bar feel — and the vinyl that they spin instead of piped-in Pandora music. Their happy hour featuring $2 cans of Mexican beer and $2 tequila shots are perfect for washing down tacos and pretending you’re somewhere warmer.
Father John Misty
I’m not much of a sucker for folk singers — favorite band ever: Nine Inch Nails — but there’s something about the easygoing croon of the former Fleet Foxes drummer. His upcoming performance at the Wex is triple-circled on my calendar.
This little magical gadget made it easy to cut the cord with cable TV. I was never a fan of watching streaming content on my laptop. This super-affordable, super-simple box delivers up all the Netflix, Hulu, etc., I can handle. Although I’ll admit, the wait for the new “Mad Men” season may prove unbearable.
Yeah, I’m that guy. Sue me. No, I don’t think the old-timey filters magically turn my phone pics into works of high art. I just think it’s a fun little visual diary of my adventures, strictly for my friends. Case in point: All of the photos on this page came from my Instagram.
