The “KEN” in KEN Mode refers to “Kill Everyone Now,” the acronym Henry Rollins coined to describe his violent stage-stalking presence. And while none of the Winnipeg trio’s members roams the stage instrument-free in that classic hardcore frontman fashion, the genre certainly rears its head on Entrench, the group’s brand new fifth album. It’s a throttling, invigorating listen, one that will rouse metal partisans and dilettantes (that’s me) alike. If you’re still kicking yourself for missing that Refused reunion or have a thing for art-damaged punk bands like Future of the Left and The Jesus Lizard, this band will take you heavier and higher. They’ll open for Today Is The Day and Ringworm this Tuesday at Ace of Cups after Fight Amp kicks things off.
