When you’re a founding member of Parliament Funkadelic and you appeared on stage with Talking Heads in “Stop Making Sense,” your cred is pretty much unimpeachable. So Moog bass pioneer Bernie Worrell already qualifies as a living legend, regardless of what he does with himself in these golden years. Seems he’s opted to stay busy recording and touring, though — lucky for you, listener.
His Bernie Worrell Orchestra has a new album coming out this year. Judging from performance clips, it’ll be a set of good old-fashioned party time funk, though the band is touring to support the record in a very newfangled way: They funded the purchase of a 15-passenger van on Kickstarter. (Supporters included Bootsy Collins, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi.) Sunday the new wheels roll up to Woodlands, where Worrell and company will play after a set from The Devil’s Lettuce.
