Concert preview: Influential metal band, Diamond Head, to melt faces at Shrunken Head

“Without Diamond Head, there’d be no Metallica.” It’s practically a slogan by now, partially because the world’s most famous metal band has been vocal about the New Wave of British Heavy Metal mainstay’s influence, and partially because Diamond Head’s C.V. isn’t exactly stacked. But a quick spin through their Makin’ Music “Live in ’83” shows Lars Ulrich and company were right to geek out.

It would be nice to think a band that sowed the seeds of so much success for others would be touring through bars bigger than the Shrunken Head these days, but so it goes. On the plus side, for Columbus residents Tuesday’s show with Bridesmaid and Ride to Ruin is a chance to see the NWOBHM up close and personal — or a version of it led by founding member Brian Tatler, anyhow.
