Food trucks and bars: A match made in gastronomical heaven

Some of the best bars in Columbus don’t have operating kitchens — but that doesn’t stop them from offering terrific vittles. This remarkable trend is making a famously embarrassing movie quote appropriate again: “We live in a cynical world. A cynical world. And we work in a business of tough competitors. I love you. You complete me.”

Lifted from that modern cornball classic “Jerry Maguire,” the quote encapsulates the genius of “I’ve got great grub” food trucks hooking up with “No chow, but I’ve got phenomenal ambiance, tunes, booze and bathrooms” taverns. When these attractions join forces ... well, like you, I’m easy to please — as long as you give me everything I want! Anyway, this truck+bar matchmaking is spicing up the people-are-noticing flavor of our city.

Yes, Columbus has a flavor. It tastes like an evolving metropolis realizing it can become whatever it wants to become. Who’s gonna stop us?

This kind of thinking is fueling the creative and entrepreneurial outbursts in our current culture. It is motivating mobile chefs and scenester drinkers to risk starting follow-your-dream businesses. And — hello springtime! — it’s what’ll bring a lot of fun to warm-weathered Columbus nights. Here are some inspired truck/bar hook-ups that (Maguire-ism No. 2 alert!) “had me at hello.”
