“Daydream” was an appropriate title for the greatest song on Beach Fossils’ masterful, mirage-like debut album. Dustin Payseur’s retro-maniacal blend of post-punk jangle and the Instagram filter sonics that were all the rage back in 2010 shot him to the head of that particular class (at least until former Fossil Zachary Cole Smith’s DIIV became even more of an indie darling).

On the new Clash the Truth, the sound remains the same — “Careless” in particular captures that essence of instant nostalgia — but the feeling is less spiritual, more tactile. All the better, then, for Beach Fossils’ surprisingly sprightly live show, which returns to The Summit this Friday with an assist from DJ Charles Erickson.
