There’s Gallery Hop. Then there’s Gallery Hop in the summer.

Use the warm weather to explore the places exhibiting artwork off the beaten High Street path during the monthly arts roundup.

Might I recommend the work of Christin Hutchinson at Stone Village Church (from 5:30-8 p.m. at 139 E. Second Ave.). Hutchinson’s got an OSU MFA and plenty of accolades under her name, but her artwork is about a very social experience and its innate repercussions — standards of beauty.

Pulling from her own personal revelations of self-image, Hutchinson uses tightly cropped digital photographs of her face and hair — manipulated by different makeup, hair and lighting in each image — and shapes them in to shredded sculptural installation paintings. The twisted pieces protrude from the walls on which they hang, changing the face of the gallery space and paralleling her study of the way outer appearances can be re-imagined.
