Staff Pick: Sinkane’s hometown hero keeps rising

By Columbus Alive
From the May 30, 2013 edition

Sinkane frontman Ahmed Gallab has rubbed elbows with lots of big-name indie rockers throughout his journey from the literal basements of this city’s DIY scene to the metaphorical penthouse that is James Murphy’s DFA Records. Still, I stood slack-jawed and befuddled (and delighted!) when, during a surprise Usher/Afghan Whigs collaboration at SXSW’s Fader Fort, Usher welcomed Gallab on stage and joined him in a performance of Sinkane’s funk-masterful “Runnin.’” It was a pleasant surprise for anyone present and a total WTFOMG moment for anyone who knows Gallab.

Does this mean Sinkane will be playing venues larger than Skully’s next time the band rolls through Columbus and you ought to see them up close while you can Tuesday? Not sure, but you wouldn’t want to risk it.
