Staff pick: Dawes is the latest roots-rock band to graduate from Rumba to Bluestone

Rumba Cafe is the place most upstart roots-rockers perform when they blow through Columbus (like tumbleweeds, obviously). The tiny Summit Street bar breeds loyalty so even when bands outgrow the space, they keep coming back. Fortunately, a partnership with The Bluestone means Rumba can keep reeling in acts like Justin Townes Earle and Lucero even when stuffing them inside Rumba becomes a fire hazard.

Thus, glimmering L.A. folk-rock outfit Dawes will be at The Bluestone this Sunday in partnership with Rumba, the venue that was hosting them long before they were opening for living legends (Bob Dylan) and modern superstars (Mumford & Sons). The airy canyon sing-alongs from the band’s new Stories Don’t End will sound stellar in there.

Shovels and Rope, another O.G. Rumba performer, will open.
