It seems that August in Ohio reckons a local food celebration nowadays, and I'm surely not complaining. Contributing to the local food phenomenon is Local Foods Week, sponsored by Local Matters, kicking off this Saturday.
The week features several farmers markets, beer and wine tastings, festivals and cooking classes. There's even a bike ride kicking off the event, in partnership with Yay! Bikes, to the new Near East Side Cooperative Market.
Even though all of these happenings will translate to a full stomach for you, the event's ultimately about coming to healthful and sustainable food access. So learning to cook or taking a bite of the local delicacies will hopefully incite your hunger as well as a dialogue about our own food habits.
