Staff Pick: Livids should fill hankering for New Bomb Turks

Anyone who attended New Bomb Turks’ fantastic anniversary show ComFest weekend — a “Batman” onomatopoeia text-bubble spree of BAM! POW! and ZAP! — is probably hankering for more of Eric Davidson’s trademark garage-punk tomfoolery. Those who couldn’t get in likely hanker just as passionately.

Cue Livids, the Turks frontman’s furiously fun Brooklyn combo, whose 2012 EP (Some Of Us Have) Adrenalized Hearts is like running skuzzy Turks-style ragers through a Technicolor B52s filter. Quoth Waka Flocka Flame, “It’s a party, it’s a party, it’s a party.”

They’ll twist and shout into town Saturday in celebration of Columbus punk mainstay/Ace of Cups bar manager Aleks Shaulov’s birthday. Openers Vegetative State and Planktones ensure all generations of this scene will be repped.
