Independents’ Day: Comedy also among ramped-up offerings at ID

Last year, Independents’ Day introduced local comedy to its lineup of events. This year’s expansion to three days means the festival has ramped up the comedy offerings.

Standup comedians and improv groups will have jokes on jokes on jokes throughout Saturday, with some interesting — and most assuredly hilarious — non-traditional performances mixed in.

Everything kicks off at 2 p.m. with stand-up comedian (and contemplator of Rob Zombie’s attractiveness) Travis Hoewischer and improv with #Hashtag.

At 3 p.m. Chris Coen tells some stories — adult story time with Coen, if you will — with improv accompaniment.

Next up Justin Golak, Mark Lucas and Jeff Baltes present improvised standup (Jokes As You Go) at 4:30 p.m. which should produce some fantastic off-the-cuff humor and one-upmanship.

The evening wraps up with popular improv groups Fake Bacon and Fishbowl (6 p.m.) and Sean Somerville, Lisa Berry, Michael Meyers, Joseph Ivan, Laura Sanders and Justin Golak performing standup sets beginning at 7 p.m.
