Multi-instrumentalist Quintron (real name: Robert Rolston) and his backup singer/maraca-playing wife Miss Pussycat (Panacea Theriac), have been relatively quiet in recent years. The latest Quintron album, the typically eclectic Sucre Du Sauvage, surfaced back in 2011, and tour dates have been sporadic. Once onstage, however, any silence surrounding the pair should dissipate quickly as the couple constructs dense dance tunes from an eclectic mix of lo-fi sounds and textures.
Though it sounds both handmade and immediate, the group’s electro-junkyard sound has actually been carefully cultivated through the years, and Rolston utilizes a handful of noisemaking machines he invented himself, such as the Drum Buddy, a rotating, light-activated drum machine, and a hand organ known as the Spit Machine. Expect the band to employ these creations and more when it swings by Ace of Cups on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Professional Wrestling and zZz open the show.
