A quick glance at the Toronto-based electronic duo’s growing catalog offers ample insight into its sound. As their titles suggest, songs like “Adrenaline,” “Rumble in the Jungle” and “Rave” are universally upbeat, piling on booming drum beats, fuzzy bursts of synthesizer and basslines that rumble like active construction zones.
The two principles — Dylan Mamid (a.k.a. DC) and Zach Rapp-Rovan (Hooks) — started making music together in 2004 and adopted the name Zeds Dead (from “Pulp Fiction”; Google it) in 2009.
The pair’s big break arrived in 2010 when tastemaking electronic label Mad Decent released the group’s Rumble in the Jungle EP.
In the years since Zeds Dead has remained a steady live presence, dropping remixes of unexpected favorites (Blur’s “Song 2”) alongside its own trippy beats. Paper Diamond, Green Lantern, Branchez and Attak & Carma open the show.
