“Amy Neiwirth: Crystallized”

Ohio Art League member Amy Neiwirth is trying something new for her latest exhibit. Best known for her fun, effervescent food-themed artwork and jewelry, Neiwirth is employing watercolors for “Crystallized.” But the works are still distinctly Neiwirth, with a brightly colored vibrancy present in the abstractions of magnified sugar crystals and geometric forms. Neiwirth has created a line of jewelry using metal, paper and epoxy resin — she’s also the creator of Sweet Stella Designs — to complement the exhibit. The exhibit will be on display at Image Optical during November with an opening night reception from 7-10 p.m. Saturday.

“Jesse Kuroiwa & Nick George”

ROY G BIV Gallery presents a two-person photography exhibit for November and both the exhibits should be fascinating. According to the gallery’s press release, “both artists challenge the notion that photography is exclusively an ‘objective’ or ‘truth-telling’ medium.” Jesse Kuroiwa’s work examines the Japanese-American internment camps from WWII by revisiting the sites where much violence and discrimination once took place, and shooting them at their most opposite of times — tranquil. Nick George’s approach is more conceptual by working with pinhole cameras, photograms and paper negatives to create abstract art pieces. The exhibits will run through November with an opening 7-10 p.m. Saturday and an artists’ talk at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 30.
