Ween might have split up in 2012, but Dean Ween, born Michael Melchiondo, Jr., has soldiered on under yet another nom de rock: Mickey Moist, guitarist for outlaw rockers Moistboyz. The long-running crew, whose roots stretch back to the mid-90s, often attempts to inject humor into its strutting cock rock, but the punch lines are rarely satisfying enough to overcome the half-baked concept.
Not that the band doesn’t try. Its latest album, V, arrives packed with a ragged assortment of roadhouse rockers and blues-fueled boogies. But the music is often undercut by the lyrics, which tend to confuse rampant misogyny and willful ignorance with wit.
