Following a 2011 detour into Old, Weird America with the raucous Celebration, Florida, mountain-folkies The Felice Brothers hit a bit of a rough patch.
The band’s house was nearly destroyed by a hurricane, the Winnebago that served both as a tour bus and a home away from home died, and lead singer/guitarist Ian Felice was hospitalized with an acute skin condition.
It appears the crew has finally begun to pick up the pieces following this rocky stretch, regrouping for this tour where they will undoubtedly road test material for a long-overdue new album.
While The Felice Brothers’ songs tend to be more rough-and-tumble, opener Amanda Shires exudes unwavering calm amid the storm on her latest effort, Down Fell the Doves, an album packed with gorgeous songs about ugly things like heartbreak, deceit and death.
