Arts preview: “LUSH: New Works by Sarah Fairchild” at Hammond Harkins Gallery

By
From the February 6, 2014 edition

Fairchild’s latest paintings of large-scale, fluorescent images of plants, primarily garden vegetables, are inspired by the “beauty of local food.”

Using handmade flocking and iridescent paints, the result is vibrantly-colored works that burst with shades of magenta.

The dazzling aesthetic is paired with an introspective element as Fairchild states, “My process creates a dialogue between past and present, depth and flatness, reality and fantasy.” An artist talk is schedule for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9.
