Concert preview: Lily Kershaw reveals a darker side on her gorgeous, Americana-tinged debut

In press photos, the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter looks like the femme fatale from a classic film noir, and she exudes a similar sense of sensuality and menace on her pretty, Americana-leaning debut, Midnight in the Garden.

“Pull the trigger nice and fast,” she sings on the album-opening “Marlboro Man,” sounding like a woman comfortable to have come face-to-face with the end. It makes sense then that her music has appeared on the grisly televised procedural “Criminal Minds,” a show nearly as dark as Kershaw’s sometimes-vengeful mind.
